The IVV has designated May 8 annually as the date on which to celebrate World Walking Day. Member countries may also hold World Walking Day on either the preceding or following weekend if that is more convenient and has a greater chance of success than a weekday.

A special World Walking Day, in conjunction with a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the IVV, was held in Lindau, Germany on May 04, 2019. Two linear routes of 11 km each were offered. The first walk started at the Insel-Hotel Lindau, Maximilianstr. 42, D-88131 Lindau, and finished at Pier69 Hafenrestaurant, Seestr.4 A-6900 Bregenz. The second 11 km walk returned to the previous start point in Lindau.
